Hotel History
The hotel opened its doors in 1911 as a symbol to the nation and the world that Galveston Island had withstood the devastation of the Great Storm of 1900. Immediately, the property was proclaimed the “Queen of the Gulf” and deemed the “best arranged and most richly furnished seaside hotel in America” by Hotel Monthly within a year of opening.
The history is rich at the Hotel Galvez. The hotel has been the choice of such world-famous guests as Howard Hughes, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. In fact, the property served as the temporary White House for President Teddy Roosevelt during a 10-day fishing trip and was the site for his first meeting with newly-elected Congressman and future president, Lyndon B. Johnson.

Even though this property is rich in history and beautiful charm, the Hotel Galvez is certainly ready to turn your experience of today into an unforgettable one! The hotel has 226 luxuriously-appointed rooms, which combine the modern day luxuries and the grace and charm of yesteryear. The rooms are accented with regal golds and emerald greens and feature cherry armoires and pillow top mattresses to complete the ambiance.
Additionally, the hotel boasts seven grand suites on the top two floors, each featuring a unique design - Victorian, Empire, Art Deco, Renaissance, Eclectic and Victorian Bridal. The suites are all outfitted with sitting rooms and mini-bars - making them ideal for entertaining.

The Hotel Galvez offers more than 13,000 square-feet of accommodating meeting space equipped with all of the state-of-the-art audio visual equipment. The edifice also has a 4,550 square-foot Music Hall and an East and West Parlor.
